Witness the potential of Sri Lanka’s budding Engineers at SLIIT’s Young Engineering EXPO
The Young Engineering EXPO which is scheduled to take place on the 11th of July 2018 will be hosted by SLIIT’s ( Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology) Engineering Faculty at the SLIIT Engineering Faculty premises in Malabe.
The EXPO which is being organised for the 4th consecutive year will commence at 9: 00 am. Professor Lakshman Rathnayake - the Chairman/ Chancellor of SLIIT; Prof. Lalith Gamage - the Managing Director/ Vi c e Chancellor and Prof. Saman Thilakasiri - Dean of the Faculty of Engineering will be present to grace the occasion. Other guests include Corporate Leaders, Media Personalities and Campus students.
The module which will be in the limelight at the EXPO is the Design and Processes Engineering module, which focuses on creating innovative solutions to everyday problems. It is a very hands-on and practical module, and so there are plans to conduct workshops on Robotics at the exhibition to give students a taste of the life of an Engineer. Mr. Madhawa Herath the Lecturer in Charge, has overseen all of the student’s work to make sure they presented the best version of their projects.
One of the finished projects which will be showcased on the 11th is the Stargazer.
Built to facilitate long exposure times for astrophotographers and hobbyists, the device allows one to get pin point sharp images of the night sky that are rich in clarity by eliminating the diurnal motion - which is what hinders clarity of these photographs.
Another project is the Dog Repellent which can be used to discourage dogs from urinating on car tires, thereby increasing the tires’ lifetime.
The Young Engineering EXPO is a wonderful opportunity for budding innovators and professionals alike, to get a glimpse into this career path and experience the potential of the next generation of prospective Engineers.
