The dual majors in psychology is a very unique program and it’s the first of its kind in Sri Lanka which gives a student to study and acquire skills in these applied areas in an accelerated time frame. This is another pioneering step by CIRP, the leader of South Asia in psychology education. In par with its goal to produce employable graduate and capacity building in the field of psychology in the region, CIRP has taken psychology education to a new height with this step.

An interdisciplinary major provides students with the opportunity to combine the best of several subject areas around a single theme. These degrees provide you with a greater degree of flexibility and a wide range of opportunities specifically oriented to your career goals. An interdisciplinary major in psychology combines select psychology courses with those of another major to best suit the needs of the student.

The key introductory programs under the Diploma of Higher Education in Psychology has six different variations that we believe captures the essence of the disciplines that would create a smooth blend and give more variety to the student. Psychology being the focal module the depth of the program would benefit the student in terms of being well versed in the areas of understanding human behavior and thinking and enhancing a range of transferable skills that would be useful in working with people in any field of work. The impact to the society that each of these majors can bring out is much greater in aspects of future growth.

DIPLOMA OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN PSYCHOLOGY

This program is designed in order to equip the participant with the necessary skill set and qualifications, for employability in a wide variety of jobs. The curriculum of DEHP offers maximum flexibility, in terms of its variety in subject matter. Thus, the student has the privilege to select an elective module based on their personal interest and passion. Upon the completion of the Diploma, its students can directly start their BSc (Hons) in Psychology in the final year, and if they wish to study abroad, they have the opportunity of transferring to a university in U.K or Australia

BUSINESS & PSYCHOLOGY

Having the need for further education in psychology in the corporate world is immense, owing to the lack of skills and knowledge in communication, team work, management, affective and sustainable performance. This program concentrates on the area of psychology, which will allow the students to explore the science behind the psychological functioning of an organization & its employees. This allows the student to discover correct and more effective ways to manipulate the work environment in order to obtain maximum results, without causing a negative impact on its employees or the clientele. Based on the requirement and personal interest, the student has the opportunity to select an elective module of their choice.

PSYCHOLOGY AND HRM

Correlation between management and employees is an integral part of the proper functioning of an organization. This program caters to the better and more effective management of the employees, retaining them and securing their best effort for company’s development. Through this, students will be able to procure the needed skill set to become successful in the field of HRM. Apart from being employed in the HR department in an organization, this program will enhance the employability in advertising, branding, PR and consultancy firms. Based on the requirement and personal interest, the student has the opportunity to select an elective module of their choice.

PSYCHOLOGY AND MARKETING

Foundation of Marketing lies in the science of psychology. This program specifically ensures that the gap between the consumer need and the product or service is understood. To enhance the understanding of the marketer in the psychology of their target audience, they are able to procure a favorable response from the consumer. Based on the requirement and personal interest, the student has the opportunity to select an elective module of their choice. This is a competitive field to enter, but there are many variations of jobs in a variety of settings, from research labs to universities and other organizations.

PSYCHOLOGY AND SPORTS SCIENCE

This program is designed to introduce and further develop knowledge and skills required to better one’s performance in sports. It provides an insight in the psychological factors that motivate athletes, increase participation and cause overall performance. The subject also tackles issues related to the psyche of sportsmen and the ways to properly solve them using psychology. It is ideal for individuals who seek employment opportunities such as fitness trainers, coaches, sports counselors.

CHILD PSYCHOLOGY

The opportunity to explore and understand the psyche of childhood is presented in this program. Child Psychology equips the individual with necessary skills and knowledge that can be used to aid every aspect of a child’s psychological development. Children are the future of the world. Thus, their proper growth determines the future of the society. Studying child psychology and entering in to a career in it will give its students, the opportunity to be an active part in a stable and secure future. COUNSELING & PSYCHOLOGY

As the post popular area of psychology, counseling psychology has a wide variety of job opportunities. Being a vast discipline with a lot of subject matter, the Diploma is designed to equip the students with the basic level of knowledge in Counseling that will be of immense help in pursuing a career in that area. Apart from the availability of career opportunities, the diploma in counseling will procure the necessary skills and knowledge in the individual to cater to the needs in the changing world.

CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGY

This course in Criminal Psychology, with its wide range of electives to choose from, provide its students with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of criminal psychology. This program is ideal for those interested to work with law enforcement to solve crimes, provide expert testimony in court, do criminal profiling, study internet predators and solving internet crimes. It explores the psychological functioning behind crimes, providing the ability to profile criminals, predict their behavior and find ways to lessen such activity.
