Enrol in February 2019 intake at a Go8 university in Australia through Edlocate
The Group of Eight (Go8) is a coalition of world- leading research intensive Australian universities namely The University of Melbourne, The Australian National University, The University of Sydney, The University of Queensland, The University of Western Australia, The University of Adelaide, Monash University and UNSW. Edlocate now represents all 8 universities in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The Go8 universities are some of the largest and the oldest universities in Australia and are consistently the highest ranked of all Australian universities. According to the just released 2018 QS world university rankings all Go8 Universities were ranked in the top 150 worldwide. Go8 Universities feature in the top 100 places for every subject area in the QS world university subject rankings too.
The Go8s are focussed on, and are leaders in, influencing the development and delivery of longterm sustainable national higher education and research policy, and in developing international alliances. The QS university rankings by subject rate all Go8 law schools in the top 100, with six in the top 50 and four in the top 20. All Go8 universities have at least one field of engineering ranked in the top QS 100, and all are in the top 100 for medicine, psychology and education.
The Go8 has international alliances and agreements with leading international universities and research organisations in the developed world. It is a signatory to the prestigious statement which links them with elite University groups around the world.
The Go8 universities have a reputation for accepting quality undergraduate students and delivering quality graduates; 360,000 students – more than one quarter of all higher education students in Australia. This includes around 90,000 international students from 200 countries including Sri Lanka, with one in three of Australia’s international students choosing to study at a Go8 university. They educate more than half of Australia’s doctors, dentists, and vets; and provide over 55% Australia’s science graduates and more than 40% of engineering graduates. Student success and retention rates are above the Australian average, ensuring that a higher percentage of students from all backgrounds will graduate from the Go8.
They are the leaders in post graduate education too. Go8 universities enrol one third of all post graduate students, and almost half of all students in higher degrees by research. Go8 universities award half of all doctorates in Australia. According to the statistics the Group of Eight universities receive almost twice as much research funding as the other 30 Australian public universities combined. These 8 universities receive 73% of Australian Competitive Grant ( Category 1) funding and had the largest proportion of research fields rated at 4 or 5 (‘ above’ or ‘ well above’ world standard). Each year the Go8 spends some $6 Billion on research – more than $2 Billion of which is spent on Medical and Health Services research.’
The Go8 universities like all 38 public universities in Australia are required to be registered under the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011. Though admission to all programs are set by individual universities all public universities which receive Australian Government financial support must meet quality and accountability requirements set out in the Higher Education Support Act. All of them are required by legislation to comply with threshold standards set for courses thus the quality of courses are not compromised.
