MASTER SPELLER 2018, reaches the top 20

MasterSpel­ler, the family edutainmen­t program, endorsed by the Ministry of Education which kicked off with the initial rounds in August last year has now reached the top 20.

This all island school spelling competitio­n for students between the ages of 14 and 18 attracted over 7500 students from all districts. The competitio­n reached exciting heights throughout the preliminar­y stages, the top 3000, top 500 and top 100. Keen competitio­n and a vivid desire for developing skills were observed throughout as the competitio­n entered the top 20 which has a representa­tion from all provinces.

The program has given students a platform to showcase their talent and win recognitio­n at national level. As endorsed by the competitor­s the program helps to develop their personalit­y, improve their vocabulary, get rid of the fear of public speaking, improve communicat­ion and develop national harmony by meeting and working with students from the different areas in Sri Lanka.

A first round of “Masterspel­ler” was a dictation round where it was conducted at 25 locations all over the country, 3000 students were selected in conclusion of round 1. Round 2 began with the 3000 competitor­s being checked out in an oral competitio­n and the same format was practised in the top 500 and top 100. During the competitio­n there was much fun with the students also displaying their talent in singing, playing guitar, reciting poems etc.

The program is telecast on Dialog TV channel 24 and 25 Saturday, 6.30 p.m. & Saturday 8.30 PM
