Colombo Masters Cricket Assoc. 60+ too good for 50+
Colombo Masters Cricket Association ( CMCA) 60+ Cricketers showed they have not lost their touch, when they scored fine 18-run victory over CMCA 50+ team at the Wesley College Grounds recently.
Taking first lease of the wicket, CMCA 60+ with the aid of two good knocks by Tissa Wijerathne ( 43) and Rohan Perera ( 63 rtd.), posted a respectable 221/ 5, in their allotted 35 overs. With the exit of Chrys De Siva for 19, the Wijerathne- Perera combination kept the scoreboard ticking fast. Perera reached his half- century in 46 deliveries, before he retired.
Later in the innings, Lionel Gunasekera and Mahesh De Soyza were engaged in a 50-run partnership in 5 overs, to end the innings at 221/5.
CMCA 50+ chasing the target, fell short by 18 runs, at 203/ 9 in 25 overs. Nalliah Devarajan (49), Lalith De Silva ( 30) and Durand Lawson ( 19 n.o.) were the main contributors. A fighting 8th- wicket partnership of 50 runs by Lalith De Silva ( 30- 2 fours, 2 sixes)) and Lawson ( 19 n. o.- 3 fours) brought a ray of hope for the 50+s, but with the exit of De Silva, the inning folded for 205, giving the 60+ a close win to maintain their unbeaten tag.
CMCA has finalised plans to tour Malaysia from October 3-10, to play three T30 and one T20 match. On October 13, the Masters will meet the Veterans Conference League from England at a T30 game at the P'Sara Oval.
