The SLGGA takes the lead to make a change for girls
Having completed its 100th year in 2017, the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA) has strived to be a leading volunteer movement to inculcate discipline and leadership among girls in the country. With its establishment in 1917, the Girl Guide movement has completed many projects on a national level to place an emphasis on the girl child. Under the visionary leadership of successive commissioners, the movement has accommodated young minds to take its mantle forward. 2019 will be a special year for Sri Lanka in terms of this movement especially because everybody from Butterflies to Little Friends, Rangers, Guides and Commissioners are gearing up for the Asia Pacific Regional Conference.
As its services have intensified to the North and East, the Girl Guide movement has spread its wings over many education zones of the island. Under the guidance of its incumbent Chief Commissioner Visakha Tillekeratne, the movement has achieved 90% of its annual programme targets. A successful Career Skills Day, organized by the Youth Committee, concluded with the participation of some prominent personalities in various fields.
