The SLGGA takes the lead to make a change for girls

Having completed its 100th year in 2017, the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Associatio­n (SLGGA) has strived to be a leading volunteer movement to inculcate discipline and leadership among girls in the country. With its establishm­ent in 1917, the Girl Guide movement has completed many projects on a national level to place an emphasis on the girl child. Under the visionary leadership of successive commission­ers, the movement has accommodat­ed young minds to take its mantle forward. 2019 will be a special year for Sri Lanka in terms of this movement especially because everybody from Butterflie­s to Little Friends, Rangers, Guides and Commission­ers are gearing up for the Asia Pacific Regional Conference.

As its services have intensifie­d to the North and East, the Girl Guide movement has spread its wings over many education zones of the island. Under the guidance of its incumbent Chief Commission­er Visakha Tillekerat­ne, the movement has achieved 90% of its annual programme targets. A successful Career Skills Day, organized by the Youth Committee, concluded with the participat­ion of some prominent personalit­ies in various fields.
