Kenyans dominate proceeding­s

Kenyans dominated the 18th LSR Colombo Marathon which was held last Sunday. James Tallum clocked 2 hours and 21.52 minutes to finish the 42 kilometre marathon which flagged off from Torrington, Colombo and ended at the Negombo Beach Park.

Tallum's fellow compatriot­s Stephen Mungathra Mugambi finished the course with a timing of 2 hours and 21.58 minutes to finish second and Peter Keter timed 2 hours and 22.30 minutes to finish at third. Sri Lankans Amila Sampath Kumara, K.S.T. Gunasekara and P.D. Arunasiri finished among the top ten behind the Kenyans.

The Women's race was won by Kenyan Margaret Njuguna, who timed 2 hours and 52.54 minutes followed by fellow compatriot Emily Jepkoech, who finished second with a timing of 2 hours and 53.49 minutes. Sri Lankan S.P.M. Perera finished third with a timing of 2 hours and 53.56 minutes.

The event in which over 7000 long distance runners from all parts of the world took part, also included a half marathon, a 10kilometr­e run and a 5 kilometre fun run, where most participan­ts were local youngsters. The event was organised by Lanka Sportreize­n for the 18th year.
