Dinura’s Battery Powered Electric Cars makes magic at SPARK ‘18

Young Dinura P. K. Gunatilake, a Nine year old student, of Royal College Colombo, is a genu ine car enthusiast, champion swimmer and ‘Karate kid’. He is also a ‘dreamer’ and young inventor.

As such, he was eager to design a battery powered electronic car, for his school exhibition, titled SPARK ’ 18, and produced two such model cars.

Having engaged the support of his father, Dr. Ishanthe Gunatilake, a past Royalist himself, who supported him to draw the circuit diagram, he made his dream cars a reality, with further technical assistance from senior Royalists, Ranidu and Thilina, who have a penchant for electronic­s.

Young Dinura received many accolades of praise for his two inventions. He presented the details of these models with enthusi- asm and childlike delight, to respective Chief Guests, Principal o f Royal C o l l e g e, Mr. B . A . Abeyratne, school officials and visitors who visited his stall in M12 7, with confidence, highlighti­ng his impressive knowledge of cars and their motor mechanism.

Spark’ 18, showcased more than 1000 exhibits of young Royalists, who have an abundant of talent, ingenuity and the ‘ spark’ to innovate. More than 8000 students from Royal College, featured novel and interestin­g exhibits from September 25th to 28th 2018, in the statuesque Royal College classrooms, re- creating a Science Exhibition Par excellence.
