The schoolboy cricketer selection module unveiled

Anew points system was formulated by the members of the Selection Committee of the Dialog 4G- the Sunday Times Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Cricketer of the Year 2019, headed by the versatile Jayantha Seneviratn­e, at a special meeting held on November 8, at the NCC Boardroom in Colombo.

The intended points system, which allows players and teams a fair passage to earn a deserving award, was finalised upon serious and lengthy round of discussion­s by the attended members. The meeting was chaired by Seneviratn­e and assisted by cricket guru Carlton Bernadus, who brought up vital points. Independen­t member Lakshman Ranasinghe was also present.

Representi­ng the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Associatio­n, its General Secretary Dilshan de S i l va, Treasurer Nihal Fernando and the Under- 19 Tournament Secretary Kamal Indrajith were present. From the Associatio­n of Cricket Umpires of Sri Lanka, its General Secretary Rohitha Kottachchi, Vice President Duminda Cooray and Wasantha Ariyawickr­ama made their presence.

In addition Event Consultant Ajit Bodinagoda, Deputy Editor - Sports of the Sunday Times S.R. Pathiravit­hana and representi­ng Dialog Axiata PLC, its Unit Manager - Sports Riyad Riffai were present as observers.
