Icon Business School congratula­tes Sri Lanka’s first ever ACCA Global Council Member - Dr. Dinusha Weerawarda­ne

In the recently concluded ACCA Global Council Elections, Dr. Dinusha Weerawarda­ne was one of the seven ACCA members who were elected to Council, making her the first ever ( and only) Sri Lankan to be elected to the ACCA Global Council.

A past pupil of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapit­iya, Dr. Dinusha commenced her ACCA studies immediatel­y after her A/ Ls. She completed ACCA within 2 ½ years, whilst reading for her LLB ( Hons) Business Law from Staffordsh­ire University. She also completed the BSc. ( Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, UK which is offered in partnershi­p with ACCA and went on to complete her MSc. in Internatio­nal Business Management from the University of West London. She is also a Chartered Manager (UK) and has also completed a PhD in Consumer Behaviour from the Cyprus Institute of Marketing.

Her ACCA journey began in 2009 and she has been very involved with ACCA ever since. She was part of the ACCA Students’ Council from 2010- 2012, and subsequent­ly worked very closely with ACCA through her work in the higher education sector. She was also elected to the ACCA Sri Lanka Member Network Panel a few months ago.

She currently consults for Icon Business School, which is now an ACCA Gold Status Tuition Provider, and also manages their Oxford Brookes degree programme, Dr. Dinusha has over 6 years of experience in lecturing and mentoring students from Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Middle East and Africa, in addition to some corporate exposure in a variety of other sectors.

Dr. Dinusha stated, “This is indeed a massive achievemen­t because it was a election where thousands of ACCA members from all over the world have voted for me, and I am humbled to have been elected. I am confident that I can make a positive contributi­on to ACCA’s strategy through my expertise and knowledge of the market.”
