Kotte MC passes 2019 bud­get

The Kotte Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil last week ap­proved its 2019 bud­get with 22 mem­bers of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Per­a­muna (SLPP) and 17 mem­bers of the Sri Lanka Free­dom Party (SLFP) vot­ing in favour.

Eleven Coun­cil­lors of the United Na­tional Party (UNP), walked out at the time of the vot­ing. The three JVP Coun­cil­lors voted against. A UNP Coun­cil­lor who was abroad was not present on vot­ing day.

Mayor of Kotte Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil, Mr. Madura Vi­tan­age in his bud­get speech said, the Coun­cil was ex­pect­ing a rev­enue of Rs 1,441 mil­lion dur­ing 2019.

The main in­come rev­enue was de­rived from prop­erty tax amount­ing to Rs. 230 mil­lion, Rs. 300 mil­lion from stamp duty on prop­erty trans­ac­tions, Rs. 25 mil­lion from ad­ver­tis­ing and Rs. 36 mil­lion as Court fines.

In ad­di­tion to these funds the coun­cil in­tends al­lo­cat­ing of Rs. 10 mil­lion from the Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Fund to con­struct a modern can­teen.
