Southern Province veteran's athletic meet on Feb 9 and 10

The Veterans’ Athletics Open Championship, organised by the Veterans’ Sports Association of the Southern Province for the first time is scheduled to be held at the District Sports Complex in Kotawila, Matara on February 9 and 10, 2019.

It is scheduled to conduct competitions for the male and female in 13 age categories at this meet. The age categories are under 35 open, under 40, under 45, under 50, under 55, under 60, under 65, under 70, under 75, under 80, under 85, under 90 and over 90 years.

The following events will be worked off -100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, 5000 metres, 10000 metres, 110 metres hurdle 100 metres hurdles 80 metres hurdles, 400 metres hurdles, 300 metres hurdles 200 metres hurdle, Long Jump, High jump, Triple Jump, pole-vault, shot putt, discus throwing, Javelin throw- ing, Hammer throwing, five metres Walking competition and three metres walking competition in this meet.

The Veterans’ Sport Association – Southern Province expects to award cups, and prizes for the best Sportsman and Sportswoman in each age category. Awards will be made to the champions and the runners-up of the Public Institutions, Private Institutions, Sports Associations and Provinces which scored the highest marks.

Souvenirs and refreshments will be provided by the Association. Information regarding accommodation and transport will also be provided.
