SLBFU offers scholarshi­p to children of migrant workers

Sixty- seven children of Sri Lankan working abroad have been offered scholarshi­ps amounting to Rs 1.6 million by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).

Under this programme, the SLBFE offers annual scholarshi­ps to schoolchil­dren whose parents have registered with the bureau and gone abroad to work. For this year's programme, students were selected from Jaffna, Mullativu, Kilinochi and Mannar.

Sixteen students who had passed the Year Fve scholarshi­p examinatio­n in 2017, 47 students who had passed the G. C. E Ordinary Level examinatio­ns in 2016 and four students who were selected to universiti­es in 2016 were among those who received the scholarshi­ps.

Scholarshi­ps worth Rs 20,000 each were awarded to those who had passed the Year 5 scholarshi­p examinatio­n, while scholarshi­ps worth Rs 25,000 and Rs 35,000 were awarded to those who had passed the G.C.E O/L and A/L examinatio­ns.

Arrangemen­ts have been made to allocate Rs 80.3 million to offer more scholarshi­ps to 3,203 children of Sri Lankan migrant workers. The third phase of this initiative began yesterday.
