Youth dies at construction site

Ayouth died after falling from a height of about 15 feet in an accident at a construction site. The victim has been identified as W M Thusitha Kumara, a resident of Kahatagasdeniya, Anuradhapura.

Giving evidence before the Coroner’s Court, contractor of the site, Priyantha Perera, said that he hired the youth on December 8 for work at the site of a building undergoing repairs at Marcus Fernando Mawatha, Colombo 7.

The victim was working on removing the ceiling of the building when he missed his footing and fell. He was rushed to the Colombo National Hospital, but died while undergoing treatment at its Intensive Care Unit ( ICU) on December 10.

The Judicial Medical Officer ( JMO), who conducted the postmortem inquiry certified that death was due to a fall from a height, resulting in excessive bleeding due to damage to the skull.
