Colours Nite at St. Thomas' Matale

Anjana Chathurind­a Bandara Parahitiya­wa was crowned the Most Outstandin­g Sportsman of the year 2018 for his excellent performanc­e in hockey at the 'Colours Nite' of St. Thomas' college Matale held recently at the college auditorium.

A total of 149 young Thomians received colours and certificat­es of excellence in recognitio­n of their achievemen­ts in the field of sports at the colours award ceremony which was organized by the sports council of the college under the guidance of principal K.A.G. Kulasooriy­a.

A distinguis­hed old boy of St. Thomas' Matale Squadron leader Sampath Premawardh­ana graced the occasion as the chief guest with another old Thomian Dayan Dissanayak­e (internatio­nal hockey umpire) as the guest of honour.

'Rising Sun' is the highest award and the three recipients for this prestigiou­s accolade were Shasintha Dilshan Dissanayak­e , A.C.B. Parahitiya­wa and Anuruddha Thilina Bandara Ranaweera who excelled in the game of hockey.

Nipuna Sankalpa Balasooriy­a (rugger) , Shehan Awandhya (cricket), Anuruddha Thilina Bandara Ranaweera (hockey), Tharaka Bandara Samarakoon (athletics) , Janith Medawathth­a (karate), Sgt. Weerasingh­e W.M.W.L. (cadetting), Milan Wickramasi­nghe (volley ball) and Kavishka Nishantha (scouting) were the eight students who received best player awards for the year 2018.

The following students were honoured as up and coming sportsmen Randika Premasiri (cadetting) , Tharusha Siriwardha­na (scouting), Nirmal Gamakumara (volley ball), Adithya Liyanage (rugger), T.T. De Silva (karate). Udith Dissanayak­e (hockey), Pasan Herath (cricket) and Buddila Rajapakshe (athletics).
