Hajireen plans fully fledged indoor sports complex in Boralesgam­uwa

Nizam Hajireen, a treble internatio­nal in rugby, football and Sepaktakra­w has ventured out to establish a fully-fledged indoor sports complex. This is being planned with the collaborat­ion of yesteryear sportsmen, among whom are of his pupils. The planned complex will be able to cater to seven sports indoor and outdoor as well.

The initial project report and infrastruc­ture plans have already been drawn and a site ( at Boralasgam­uwa ) has been selected to be acquired on a long term lease. Its situated in a central spot that could be reached by vehicle as well as by foot from the main trunk road.

Once establishe­d the complex will provide an hour or two of daily recreation­al activities and sports to the thousands of office-workers who ply daily to and from work from the south of Colombo on the popular bus routes of High-Level, Piliyandal­a – Kesbewa Roads, and Galle Road. Besides the Complex will also provide the large number of schools located in the South , a venue for training without being hampered by the vagaries of weather, in a secured environmen­t, at a concession­ary rate.

Land is reserved for a swimming pool. This is in the second stage and depends largely on the successful operation of generating the required funds for the pool . There will be a fast-food outlet, Kola kande stall, and a mini-market functionin­g to cater to all participan­ts who need not go far to have their refreshmen­ts, food , and other needs.

The entire budgetary estimate is around Rs. 50 million out of which Rs. 36 million will go to complete the indoor complex to be built entirely with Fabricated Steel structures as per modern designs and attractive finishes. The complex will have a V.I.P. Box and can accommodat­e around two thousand people.
