38th Squash Nationals at Panagoda

The 38th National Squash Championsh­ip 2018 will be worked off at the Panagoda Army Cantonment Indoor Stadium from December 27 to 30 with the patronage of the Sri Lanka Army.

At the request of the National squash Associatio­n, Sri Lanka Army have finalised to hold the championsh­ip in the stadium for squash, a well equipped with most modern technicalt­ies is well poised to provide training for squash players who can be groomed to meet with internatio­nal standards.

The Men's and Women's (Open) Championsh­ip tussels will get underway on December 30, 2018 at 4.30 p.m. under the patronage of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army who will grace the occasion as chief guest.

Two youngsters Ravindu Laksiri and Mihiliya Methsarani is at the top of Sri Lanka squash as they have been dominating the Men's and Women's National Championsh­ip from 2013. Both Laksiri and Methsarani have wo n the National Championsh­ip in succession from 2013 in their respective categories. In the Junior Championsh­ip too this duo had crowned themselves as champs from 2012 to 2014. From 2015 onward Shamil Wakeel had the won the crown in three successive years. Methsarani kept on winning the Girls Championsh­ip from 2012 to 2016 and Kasuni Gunawarden­e winning at the last year's championsh­ip.

At the inaugural year in 1981, Oliver Guruge emerged Men's champion while Arlene Thanaraj cl i n ched the Women's championsh­ip. Navin Piyatissa won the Boys Junior c r own wh i l e Sonali Amereseker­e won the Girls Junior crown in the inaugural year of 1990.
