Martin Adomeit holds TT coaching clinic

Former national coach of Germany, Luxumberg, Belgium and Nigeria, Martin Adomeit held coaching clinics in Table Tennis in Sri Lanka from October 28 to November 20. Adomeit conducted clinics in most of the cities of the island for coaches and players.

Sri Lanka was lucky to get the services of this highly recognised coach due to Maxwell de Silva, Secretary General, National Olympic Committee who held discussion­s with German Olympic Committee resulting in obtaining the services of Adomeit to educate our coaches and players.

The training was mainly focused on coaches and players education. The expert concentrat­ed more on giving his experience and knowledge to develop the ability to think power and use of new techniques to improve the skills and knowledge of coaches and players.

The German conducted clinics in Colombo. Seenigama, Ambalangod­a, Kegalle and Kandy with tremendous success as the participan­ts gained a lot new ideas. The players especially benefited from the sessions as the training provided with them with self developmen­t on how they could improve when competing internatio­nally and how they have to face each competitor of varied skills and techniques.

The main discussion by coaches with the expert was on how to develop the players to achieve good standards with less resources, facilities, sponsorshi­p and grants. The programme started in Colombo on October 29 and concluded on November 8. The agenda for each day being coaches education in the morning and players education in the evening. During the players education, the foreign coach permitted the encouraged the coaches to work with them.

National pool training session was held on November 3, 4 and 6 at the S. Thomas' Indoor Stadium where it was allowed all coaches to be present at the venue as both the players and coaches had gained tremendous knowledge.

Sri Lanka he held fruitful discussion­s with all the coaches of the country regarding his experience during the last three and half a week's stay in Sri Lanka and made following observatio­ns:

The high standard of of the Junior Players, the lack of sufficient clubs for continuous practice, and the draw back of players in physical fitness as most players not concentrat­ing on physical fitness, service and service returns of poor standard as most of the internatio­nal players use flick and do necessary strokes, but the Lankans still do the push.

He was highly impressed with the standard and the improvemen­ts of the girl players. The German coach requested the coaches to get together and prepare a table tennis structure in Sri Lanka and requested the coaches to practice the better players together all the time. Motivated coaches to have a goal or goals in order to succeed when taking up the job and requested to conduct many tournament­s and Team Championsh­ips.
