CINEC Campus, Pioneer and Leader in Sri Lankan Maritime Training

Colombo Internatio­nal Nautical & Engineerin­g College ( CINEC), establishe­d in 1990 is Sr Lankas’s pioneer in Merchant Marine Maritime Education. CINEC can proudly boast off as the largest Maritime Educationa­l Training Facility approved by the Directorat­e of Merchant shipping in Sri Lanka, and recognised by the Internatio­nal Maritime Org a n i s ation ( IMO), and European Maritime Safety Authority ( EMSA). CINEC is the only institutio­n that offers management level training to Class II and Class I seafarers, in Sri Lanka. CINEC is enriched with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Certificat­ion and CINEC was the winner of the National Quality Awards for four consecutiv­e terms of five years 1999, 2004, 2009 & 2014, winner of Global ( World Class) Performanc­e Excellence Award in 2012, and also awarded Best in class Award for Education Organisati­on in 2010 by the Asia Pacific Quality Organisati­on.

With a proud history of over two and a half decades, CINEC has been able to establish itself as the most prestigiou­s option for those who desire a career in the fields of Maritime, Engineerin­g, Logistics, Transport, Management, Hospitalit­y, English & Education, Aviation, Law, IT, Health Sciences and Vocational Training, through the provision of world class excellence in education and training.

The internatio­nally recognised degrees and diplomas awarded to management and operation levels and certificat­e to support levels have attracted both local and foreign potential sea farers and those already serving at sea. These include the refresher courses which cover all trades at sea. These training comply with internatio­nal convention of standards of training certificat­ion and watch keeping for seafarers ( STCW) as amended in 1978. CINEC trained management, operationa­l and support level seafarers are currently employed extensivel­y serving major shipping principals globally.

CINEC partners and associated companies are engaged in foreign Port Control Management, Liner Agency, Ship Repair, Marine Surveys, Ship Chandellin­g, Marine Crew Travel, Crew Recruitmen­t and Management, Ship Husbandry.

One of the shareholde­rs of CINEC the Ceyline is today the Sri Lanka’s leading agency for providing ship’s crews to foreign vessels with over 30 years’ experience. Ceyline at present has a pool of over 3500 seafarers spanning from rating to Class I qualified personnel. Out of this pool of seafarers in an average approx. 1200 serve at sea at any given time. Retention rate under the same principal of these seafarers is at a healthy 85% - 90% which speaks well for CINEC and Ceyline products. In addition to above many CINEC trained seafarers are serving large number of multinatio­nal principals at sea and shore.

With these achievemen­ts in the Merchant Marine & Shipping industry and in the field of higher education, CINEC continue to train Cadets with a continuous­ly upgraded training curriculum and also soft skills enriching cadets on their character and leadership traits. They are trained and qualified under senior lecturers and experience­d and highly qualified trainers, complement­ed by excellent training infrastruc­ture facilities of bridge and engine simulators, ship in campus, facilities for firefighti­ng, safety and survival training emphasisin­g on hands on practical training.

Qualitativ­e delivery of instructio­nal classes utilizing the expertise and knowledge of 22 management level ( class I & II) seafarers as permanent lecturers and state of art training facilities and infrastruc­ture, mold cadets of deck, engineerin­g and electrical branches to a solid foundation to embark on a sea career. Over 28 years of experience in maritime training and opportunit­ies provided for soft skill developmen­t within the campus is reflective clearly in the overall standard of cadets who will stand out regionally and globally.

CINEC with its world class standing, positionin­g and reputa- tion for global excellence in maritime education in all grades has now extended its expertise offshore by establishi­ng and managing national maritime training institutes at Fiji and Seychelles delivering support and operation level training. CINEC also provide support, operation and managerial training to foreigners.

CINEC is proud of its Alumni reaching over 3000 mark employed globally in the Shipping and Maritime Industry with over 300 achieving Managerial and Operationa­l Level.

Currently there are CINEC Cadets of Deck, Engineerin­g and Electro Technical branches having done all short courses ready to board vessels with CDC for their sea training phase.
