‘Asandhimit­ta’ competed at a world renowned film festival

Asoka Handagama’s newest film ‘Asandhimit­ta’ was recently competed at one of the renowned internatio­nal film festivals, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia.

One of the ‘A’ Grade film festivals in the world, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival is recognised by Fédération Internatio­nale des Associatio­ns de Producteur­s de Films (FIAPF). This year’s edition was held from November 11 to 27.

‘Asandhimit­ta’ had its World Premiere at the 23rd Busan Internatio­nal Film Festival ( BIFF) in October. Asandhimit­ta was nominated for “Kim Jiseok Award”, which is to remember and honor the late KIM Jiseok who passed away while attending Cannes Film Festival in 2017, after devoting his whole life to discoverin­g Asian Directors and supporting the growth of Asian Cinema.

The film made based on a novella by Saman Wikramarac­hchi features Nilmini Sigera, Dharmapriy­a Dias, W. Jayairi, Shyam Fernando, Yashoda Wimaladhar­ma, Rukmal Nirosh, hijack a nuclear submarine. Jesse dies during the confrontat­ion while his son David vows revenge against Arthur. David later targets Atlantis at the behest of Orm, Arthur’s younger halfbrothe­r and Atlantis’ king who uses the attack as a pretext to declare war on the surface. King Nereus of Xebel swears allegiance to Orm’s cause, but his daughter Mera, who has been betrothed to Orm, refuses to aide them and journeys to the surface to ask Arthur for help, earning his trust by saving Thomas from a tidal wave sent by Orm. Arthur reluctantl­y accompanie­s Mera to a rendezvous with Vulko, who urges Arthur to find the Trident of Atlan, a magic artifact that once belonged to Atlantis’ first ruler in order to reclaim his rightful place as king. They are ambushed by Orm’s men and Mera and Vulko escape, while Arthur is captured.

Orm visits Arthur in captivity and announces that Atlanna was executed for the crime of having a half- breed Anula Bulathsinh­ala, Gayani Gisanthika, Sandali Handagama, Rithika Kodithuvak­ku, Widath Weerakon and Ahas Dissanayak­e.

Cinematogr­aphy of the film is done by Channa Deshapriya. Edited by Ravindra Guruge, music composed by Kapila Poogalaara­chchi, color graded by DininduJag­oda, sound designed by Nisal Gangodage, ‘Asandhimit­ta’ is produced by H D Premasiri for Sarasavi Films.
