Nuwara Eliya on alert for 'sena cater­pil­lar'

The agri­cul­ture di­vi­sion of the Nuwara E l i ya D i s t r i c t Sec­re­tar­iat, along with sup­port from other state agen­cies, has launched a pro­gramme to pre­vent the spread of the in­va­sive ‘Sena’ cater­pil­lar in the Nuwara Eliya dis­trict.

As part of the pro­gramme, Pub­lic Health In­spec­tors from the Nuwara Eliya Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil yes­ter­day vis­ited the Nuwara Eliya weekly mar­ket and sub­jected stocks of maize from the Mahiyan­gana area to a thor­ough in­spec­tion.

The in­spec­tors in­structed traders to re­move the leaves from the maize prior to sale and to take steps to de­stroy the leaves no sooner they we re re­moved.
