Royal Aeronautical Society awards Johanne Jayaratne
The Royal Aeronautical Society has awarded Sri Lanka’s former Airport and Aviation Services Executive Director Johanne Jayaratne the Society’s Global Silver Medal
2018 in recognition of his significant contributions to the aerospace and aviation industries.
Also known as the RAeS, the society is a British multi- disciplinary professional institution dedicated to the global aerospace community. It is the oldest and only aeronautical society and organisation of its kind in the world incorporated by Royal Charter in 1949.
The Royal Aeronautical Society inducted Mr. Johanne Jayaratne as a Distinguished Fellow of the Society by invitation in 2017 in recognition of his significant contributions in these two industries.
The Council of the Royal Aeronautical Society has selected Mr. Jayaratne for the award of the Society’s Global Silver Medal 2018, honouring innovation, achievements, excellence, and contributions to the advancement of aerospace art, science and engineering.
He is the first and only Sri Lankan-born individual to have achieved this distinction. Mr. Jayaratne’s contributions to the aviation, aerospace and biometric industries spans over 25 years, working internationally at senior management levels for several leading organiaations.
Some of his appointments include being appointed as the Managing Director of an aerospace company in the US, a manufacturer of aviation and aerospace related equipment for the Department of Defence, JPL, Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and other Aerospace organizations.
He was a founding partner and CEO of TTI, a biometric company in the US.
