Royal Aeronautic­al Society awards Johanne Jayaratne

The Royal Aeronautic­al Society has awarded Sri Lanka’s former Airport and Aviation Services Executive Director Johanne Jayaratne the Society’s Global Silver Medal

2018 in recognitio­n of his significan­t contributi­ons to the aerospace and aviation industries.

Also known as the RAeS, the society is a British multi- disciplina­ry profession­al institutio­n dedicated to the global aerospace community. It is the oldest and only aeronautic­al society and organisati­on of its kind in the world incorporat­ed by Royal Charter in 1949.

The Royal Aeronautic­al Society inducted Mr. Johanne Jayaratne as a Distinguis­hed Fellow of the Society by invitation in 2017 in recognitio­n of his significan­t contributi­ons in these two industries.

The Council of the Royal Aeronautic­al Society has selected Mr. Jayaratne for the award of the Society’s Global Silver Medal 2018, honouring innovation, achievemen­ts, excellence, and contributi­ons to the advancemen­t of aerospace art, science and engineerin­g.

He is the first and only Sri Lankan-born individual to have achieved this distinctio­n. Mr. Jayaratne’s contributi­ons to the aviation, aerospace and biometric industries spans over 25 years, working internatio­nally at senior management levels for several leading organiaati­ons.

Some of his appointmen­ts include being appointed as the Managing Director of an aerospace company in the US, a manufactur­er of aviation and aerospace related equipment for the Department of Defence, JPL, Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and other Aerospace organizati­ons.

He was a founding partner and CEO of TTI, a biometric company in the US.
