Jaffna University reigns supreme, makes it 3 in a row
The University of Jaffna (UoJ) won the Inter University Chemistry Debating Competition organised by the College of Chemical Science (CCS), for the 3rd successive year, with the Universities of Colombo (UoC) and Sri Jayewardenepura (SJU) as Runners-up.
“Every year, the Chemical Society of the UoJ organises debate competitions for undergrads of the Department of Chemistry to select the best team. They then undergo a 3- week intense training, after which the topics are researched” said UoJ Captain for the past two years, Anurakavan.
The Inter University Chemistry Debating Competition is an eagerly anticipated event of the CCS, which is organised to popularise Chemistry and create awareness of recent Technologies and Environment on Chemistry. It affords the undergrads an opportunity to develop their critical thinking, logical arguments and information literacy skills, while working as a team.
Contestants are nominated by the respective Chemistry Departments of the 5 National Universities, Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Ruhuna and Jaffna, along with the College of Chemical Science to participate in this event.
After a thorough evaluation, the winners are selected by several panels of eminent judges comprising Lecturers and active Toastmasters in Sri Lanka.
This project kicked off under the leadership of Dr Dinusha Udukala.
Congratulations to the winners and all participants.
