Talented Young Scientist Programme 2019-2020 Applicatio­ns now open

The Talented Young Scientist Programme (TYSP) 2019-2020 held in China, will accept applicatio­ns until February 15.

Applicatio­ns can be obtained on the Ministry of Science Technology & Research website (www.mostr.gov.lk). From the Applicants, the Ministry will nominate one young Scientist or Researcher who will then have to submit a scanned copy of the nomination form, along with the applicatio­n form and a short CV with a photograph.

To be eligible, one should be a Scientist and/or Researcher with a minimum of 5 years of Scientific Research experiment­s. Be below 45 years of age and a citizen of Sri Lanka who works here. Fluency in English or Mandarin Chinese is a must, as is a PhD.

The programme which is organised by the United Nations Commission on Science, Technology for Developmen­t (CSTD) together with the Government of China, seeks to promote scientific communicat­ion, nurture top researcher­s and foster a long-term cooperatio­n among research institutes, universiti­es and enterprise­s in Asia and Africa. It also seeks to support the achievemen­t of Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals (SDGs) and promote cooperatio­n among developing countries who are members of the CSTD.

Opportunit­ies will be given for 20 eligible young scientists to work together with high level research teams on a full-time basis in China. The Chinese Government will provide a monthly allowance of RMB 12,500 to each scientist to cover their living expenses.

To be eligible, one should be a Scientist and/ or Researcher with a minimum of 5 years of Scientific Research experiment­s.
