Negombo Dist. Scout Association 75th Anniversary

-

"The Scouts Movement, since its inception, has been a challenge for all the other world organizations that are still unable to work on a common platform, organizing people, specially children, without discrimination such as religion, caste, nationality etc,. But not so with this organiztion," said World Scouts Organization Committee Member and Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association (SLSA) Janaprith Fernando, addressing the gathering at the Launch Ceremony of the 75th Anniversary of the Negombo District Branch Association (NDBA) of the SLSA, held at Gateway College Katunayake, Negombo, last week.

The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Janprith Fernando and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the NDBA, Rear Admiral (Rtd) Rohan Amarasinghe.

Rear Admiral (Rtd) Amarasinghe said, "I know the importance of the Scouts. Most of them, after leaving school, have joined the Navy. As I have been a responsible officer in the Navy, I know that they perform very well in the Navy. So we are ready to give you any assistance in your activities and strengthen you."

NDBA District Commissioner Lakshan Perera said, "I took over the responsibility thinking how I could improve the quality and increase the number of Scouts in the Negombo District. Now I am proud it has borne fruit as expected."

The NDBA now has a large population of Scouts comprising Rovers and Scouts ( Air, Sea & Adventures). It is indeed a notable achievement that it has now produced 15 President's Scouts and 150 Gold Star Cub Scouts from the Negombo District. The highest number so far reached with the help of Deputy Commissioners, Scout Leaders, Scout Masters and Cub Akelas who render Honorary service .

At the Launch Ceremony, the 75th Anniversary Logo was unveiled by Mr Janaprith Fernando, while Badges were presented by Mr Lakshan Perera.

The organizers hope that more activities to be held during this anniversary year will spark more enthusiasm in the Scout Movement in the Negombo District .
