Ariana Grande takes the UK charts with newest single

Ariana Grande has done it again, taken the plum spots on both the UK singles and albums chart. The 25 year old’s newest single ‘Break Up

With Your Girlfriend, I’m bored’ debuted at No:1 just week after its release. The track which samples the NSYC track It Make Me

Ill’ from 2000, had 85,000 in combined sales as it took control of the No: 1 sport. Ariana replaced herself at the summit of the chart, as ‘7 Rings’ was dethroned. Thus she became the only female artist to achieve the fete in the 65 year UK chart history and the fourth overall in the line up. She may sound nasal and irritating at times but her appeal and

social media marketing has helped the US singer scored her fifth chart topping UK hit song. ‘Break Up...’ is produced by Max Martin and Illya Salmanzade­h. Meanwhile Ariana is the only female artist to have the No: 1 (‘Break Up...’) and No: 2 (‘7 Rings’) on the UK chart since Madonna did it with ‘Into The Groove’ and ‘Holiday’ in 1985. Grande has a double celebratio­n as her new album ‘Thank U, Next’ has also simultaneo­usly topped the UK album chart.

The young singer also has another song which debuted on the top 10, ’Needy’ which checked in at No: 8. The song is not a single but has come through downloads from the new album.

The R&B has a very romantic feel, ending with a string interlude. The last time a female artist had three songs on the top 10 was Ruby Murray in 1955 with ‘Softly Softly’ at No: 1, ‘Let Me Go Lover’ No:2 and ‘Happy Days And Lonely Hearts’ at No: 5.
