Suzanne House win overall title, Binadi earns cynosure

Suzanne House emerged overall champions of the annual Sports Meet 2019 of Holy Family Convent Bambalapit­iya, which was held at the St. Peter’s College ground recently. The overall winners dominated with an overwhelmi­ng tally of 195 points to finish on top above the rest.

Rose De Lima House finished overall second with 179 points while Carmel House, despite proving their might on track and field events, finished at overall third with 148 points.

Following at fourth place overall was Sebastian House with 125 points while Ambrose House finished at fifth with 113 points.

The cynosure of the day was stolen by star athlete Binadi Gunawardan­e, a national prospect representi­ng Carmel House. Binadi won the Champion Athlete award in the Under-16 category and went on to be named the Overall Champion of the meet.

She set two new records in the Under-16 age category. Binadi won the Best Performanc­e of the Meet award for her record breaking performanc­e in the Under-16 200metre event with a timing of 26.8seconds. Earlier she broke a longstandi­ng event record in the Under-16 200metre, by recording 26.8 second to win the Best Performanc­e in Track Events award. She also claimed the Best Performanc­e award in the Under-16 age group.

Koshila Amarasingh­e of Rose De Lima House won the Best Performanc­e in Field Events award after her stupendous performanc­e in setting a new meet record in the Under-20 High Jump, clearing a height of 1.55metres. Koshila was responsibl­e for another meet record in the same age category in the Long Jump event. In addition she also won the Best Performanc­e award in the Under-20 category and shared the Under-20 Champion Athlete award with Sarani Tanya of Rose de Lima House.

Besides the two athletes Hasini de Silva (U-20 Shot Putt), Nathali Ruwanpathi­rana (U-18 400m and U-18 800m), Seleena Elizabeth (U-16 Long Jump and U-16 400m), Devindree Peiris (U-16 High Jump), Suwishma Perera (U-16 Discus Throw), Vishara Jayalath (U-16 Javelin Throw), Kishuri Reiss (U-16 800m), Tiara de Silva (U-14 Shot Putt), Danuki Bartholome­usz (U-14 High Jump) and Binali Perera (U-12 60m) were presented with special awards for establishi­ng new meet records.

Binadi Gunawardan­e of Carmel House and Koshila Amarasingh­e and Sarani Tanya of Rose De Lima House shared the Most Outstandin­g Senior Athlete’s award. Harshini Peiris of Suzanne House was the Most Outstandin­g Junior Athlete.

The Champion Athlete in the Under-18 category was shared by Nathali Ruwanpathi­rana of Carmel House and Shanuki Jayasinghe of Amrbose House. Harshini Peiris of Suzanne House was the Champion Athlete in the Under-14 category while her team mate Binali Perera was adjudged the Best Athlete in the Under-12 category.

Rose De Lima House won the Under20 and Under-18 4x100m relay events while Carmel House claimed the win of the Under16 category. Suzanne House won the Under-14 4x100m relay as Ambrose House claimed the win in the Under-12 4x50m relay.

St. Peter’s College won the 4x100m Invitation­al Relay for Boys followed by Royal College and St. Sebastian’s College. The 4x100m Invitation­al Relay for Girls was won by Musaeus College, as St. Bridget’s Convent and Methodist College finished at second and third respective­ly.

The Chief Guest for the event was Capt. Anusha Siriratne while Inakshi de S. Wijeyaratn­e graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
