Science down Zahira to record first win

Science College pulled off a splendid 19- 8 victory over Zahira College in their InterSchoo­ls Under- 19 League Rugby Tournament match worked of f at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

Science College fully exploited their home advantage and went on register their first win this season while collecting their points from two goals and one try.

Zahira of course were up against it from the kick- off and never looked like challengin­g their more fancied opponents as they managed to score only a solitary try and a penalty.

Science College got off to a spectacula­r start as they did all the scoring during a dominant first half which helped them to build up a commanding 19- 3 lead. Sanjula Rohan opened the scoring in the 15th minute for Science College with their first try which was converted by Hasaranga Mudalige.

Zahira reduced the margin in the 25th minute with an easy penalty from S. A. Salam. F ive minu t e s later, Science College planted their second try with Sanjula Rohan going over once again but the conversion was missed.

Rohan then completed his hat-trick of tries few minutes later by going over for the third successive occasion giving Mudalige an easy conversion for them to lead 19- 3. Zahira came out with an improved performanc­e in the second half and succeeded in scoring their solitary try through M. F. Fawmy in the 58th minute.
