Gateway College hosts the Internatio­nal Career & College Counsellin­g Regional Forum

The growing complexity of making career choices in an environmen­t of increasing uncertaint­y and competitio­n has made access to proper career counsellin­g and college admissions guidance to schoolchil­dren a need of the hour. The Internatio­nal Career & College Counsellin­g (IC3) Conference brings together school leaders, college counsellor­s, teachers, and university representa­tives from around the world for a collaborat­ive dialogue on issues that drive sustainabl­e and inclusive counsellin­g practices focused on student success.

For the second consecutiv­e year, Gateway College hosted the Sri Lanka leg of the Internatio­nal Career & College Counsellin­g (IC3) Regional Forum on 6 March 2019 paving the way for learning and new knowledge creation along with networking where counsellor­s, teachers, and principals from the region to interact with universiti­es from across the globe.

With the presence of over 60 participan­ts, the regional forum provided the platform for critical profession­al developmen­t opportunit­ies for partic- ipants through exchange of ideas driving the latest global trends in the field of higher education and career counsellin­g.

Dr. Harsha Alles, Chairman Gateway Group of Schools, addressing the gathering emphasised the importance of strategic and innovative collaborat­ions between schools and universiti­es to fill the educationa­l gap between high schools and universiti­es to facilitate successful career choice decisions among the young generation. Dr. Alles appreciate­d the efforts of Mr. Ganesh Kohli, Founding President of the IC3 Movement and Chair for 2019 IC3 Conference, for his visionary leadership and commitment.

Mr. Shrikant Ayyangar, Communicat­ions Manager for IC3, explained how IC3, since its incep- tion in 2016, has come a long way in providing resources and training to help develop best practices in career and college counsellin­g.

The key note speaker of the event was Honourable Robert Borbidge AO, the Chairman of Study Gold Coast Australia, a collaborat­ive venture between the region’s major universiti­es and education providers.

Dr. Zoe Morris, from Monash University Australia, shared her insights on building a career counsellin­g toolbox for adolescent­s. Sessions on ‘Medicine, Pre-Med and other Medical Majors’, ‘ Writing effective letters of recommenda­tion’ and the panel discussion on ‘Navigating a multitude of choicescar­eer wise and geographic­ally’ were among the other highlights of the one- day programme.
