SLTBC signs MOU with Thai trade body
The Sri Lanka Thailand Business Council (SLTBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand ( BOT) during an interactive business meeting held at the Head office of the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand in Bangkok recently.
Kalin Sarasin, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, and Rizan Nazeer, President of the Sri Lanka Thailand Business Council, signed the MOU in the presence of Sri Lankan Ambassador Kshenuka Seneviratne, Thailand’s Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Chulamanee Chartsuwan, and Thai Board of Trade members and SLTBC executive members.
Sri Lankan Thailand Business Council was established 22 years ago by five Sri Lankan businessmen with the blessing of the then Thai Ambassador Dr. Thakur Phanit, to promote trade, investments and tourism between the two countries.
Addressing the interactive meeting, Sarasin said there were few Thai investments in Sri Lanka, but with the signing of the MOU, Thai Board of Trade and Chamber of Commerce would play a productive role in strengthening trade and economic relationship between the two countries.
Nazeer said that the MOU would place a solid foundation for business cooperation, mutually beneficial to both countries. He invited the members of Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand to consider Sri Lanka for their next investment where the business climate had improved considerably in the post-conflict period. He also mentioned that the Government has, as part of a pilot project, decided to offer a six month visa free period for certain countries including Thailand. This will be an added point to consider by Thai tour operators to enhance religious tourism to Sri Lanka, he said.
