Hirantha and Hirusha power STC Matara to 5-wicket win

An unbeaten 97-run stand for the sixth wicket between Hirantha Lakshan (45 not out) and Hirusha Jeewadith ( 44 not out) helped St. Thomas' College to a 5- wicket win in their 20th Limited Overs encounter against Big Match rivals St. Servatius College at the Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara yesterday.

Electing to bat first, the Servatians were back in the pavilion with 231 runs on the board with four deliveries remaining.

Pushpika Dilshan topped the scorecard with 51 off 49 deliveries including half a dozen of boundaries and a six and together with big match centurion Chihan Kalindu 39 off 41 balls with four boundaries and two sixes, gave the Servatians a solid start with a 94- run partnershi­p for the first wicket. Chamika Ranasinghe, Hirantha Lakshan, Mihisal Amoda and Gishanthik­a Jayaweera bowled well to curtail the runs as well as take wickets.

Woshita Athsara (40) and Gishanthik­a Jayaweera (unfortunat­e to be run out for 38) saw the Thomians to 137/4 after which Hirantha and Hirusha finished the game with over five overs to spare. Hirantha Lakshan was named man-of-the-match for his allround performanc­e.
