PSC gives MoE 3 months to fill 302 principal vacancies

- - CC

T he Publ i c Service Commission ( PSC) last week said it has given the Ministry of Education (MoE) three months to fill the vacancies of Principals in the 302 National schools in the country.

A spokesman for the Education Service Committee of the PSC said it had turned down the list of names submitted by the MoE, disapproving the selection criteria adopted at the interview, and requested the vacancies be re-advertised and filled within three months.

It said that irregular marking scheme and the non-categorization of the schools, among others, had led to the refusal to consider the list.

The candidates need to be categorized according to the schools they have to be posted. In 64 schools in the country, only Class I SLEAS officers can be posted, and in 84 schools, Class II and Class II SLEAS officers are posted.

The MoE, on its website, said it had adopted proper procedure to fill in the Principal vacancies in the 302 National schools that are functioning with 'Acting' Principals.

The website said the relevant steps had been taken to fill the vacancies in all posts in the Sri Lanka Principal Service, through competitive exams and interviews and that promotions and placements will be done according to accepted methodologies.

It said that applications were called on August 14, 2018, through a gazette notification published on July 20, 2018. Interviews were held in October, November and December 2018, under two Interview Boards and the list of names submitted.
