Bandaranaika MV edges Henegama Central in a thrilling battle

-

Gampaha Bandaranaike Madya Vidyalaya scored a nail biting 1- wicket victory over Henegama Central College in their 4th annual ‘Siyane Nil-Kola’ one day cricket encounter concluded at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium recently.

Taking first lease of the wicket Henegama Central College were dismissed for 206 off 49.4 overs. Sehan Lakshan and Pramith Dharshana top scored with 62 and 38 respectively. Sensible batting by Lakshan and Dharshana had the bowlers on a spot of bother as both them were heading for big knocks. With the dismissals of the duo Henegama middle order batsmen found it difficult to cope with the well balanced attack of Bandaranaike lads as wickets started to fall in regular intervals to be dismissed for 206.

Chamath Kalhara (3 for 44), Salinda Hapuarachchi (2 for 33) and Kavishka Madumal (2 for 37) were the most successful bowlers for the Gampaha school.

Nipun Santhush with a polished 84 runs to his credit led the run chase for Bandaranaike MV while Kavishka Madumal and Chamath Kalhara continued their good work with the ball and lent good support to the top scorer Santhush to score 31 and 25 when Bandaranaike MV was inching towards victory. When the trio made their way back to the pavilion Henegama bowlers tightened the screws on the Bandaranaike MV’s middle order as they found run getting a difficult job. But slow and steadily Bandaranaike tail wagged to carry them past the target score of 206 off 49.5 overs for the loss of nine wickets.

Manujith Deshan (4 for 29), Pramith Dharshana (2 for 40) and Samitha Wijenayake (2 for 19) shone with the ball but ended up sadly in the losing side. – Lakshman Ranasinghe
