- By Jayampathy Jayasinghe

Gerber Technology has arrived in Sri Lanka to help companies accelerate their production process in the progress to profitability. “We are here to support you and partners and we are very excited to see the opportunities available in Sri Lanka. We have 78,000 customers in 130 countries globally and 30 of the top 50 global apparel companies and the 10 top aerospace companies and three of the five largest automobile manufacturing companies are Gerber customers,” said the CEO of Gerber Technology USA, Mohit Uberoi addressing a media briefing held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo on Wednesday.

He said the business in this part of the region was on clothing for eight billion people and to provide them with customised service with a short period of time. “We want to work with our customers to be more profitable and speed is a top priority for top companies to design, manufacture and deliver products faster.” The second most important thing was by using data on labour management and delivering spare parts and services to customers to run factories. Using data has become a crucial factor to improve business. “The top 20 companies in the world get 80 per cent of the profits while others lag behind. What we want to do is to work with our customers to allow them to be more profitable." What they were also trying to do with the company’s fashion tech platform is to help customers deliver their finished products in a shorter period of time. Gerber wants to continue in dealing with blue chip companies globally.

Mr. Uberoi has worked in many large clothing manufacturing, printing and public equipment operations before joining Gerber Technology to bring in new technical innovations in future.

”We at the DMS Software Technologies need the support of Gerber Technology to operate in industries to boost exports from Sri Lanka with increased productivity,” said a spokesman for DMS Technologies.

Vice President, General Manager EMEA and SWA of Gerber Technology, Theo Ostendorf said they cover countries in Europe, Africa and West Asia, India, Pakistan Bangladesh, South West region, and Sri Lanka. “We have done a lot of work with the DMS Software Technologies during the past 12 months. We have also established a centre in Portugal to facilitate technology transfer,” he said.
