Saman House champs at Sri Sangamitta Girls National School Matale

Saman House with a tally of 385 points emerged overall champions at the Inter-House Sports Meet 2019 of Sri Sangamitta Girls National School (formerly B.M.S.) Matale held at Edward Park Ground in Matale.

Manel House with 380 points finished close second followed by Kumudu house 275 points and Araliya House 200 points in the third and fourth places.

J. Indumadi of Kumudu House was named the Most Outstandin­g Athlete of the Meet for her excellent performanc­es in Under-20 age group. Sammani Nugapitiya of Araliya won the award for the Best Athlete in Track Events while Piumali Keerthirat­hne of Manel House took away the Best Athlete award for the Field Events.

The Relay teams of Manel House excelled to take away both junior and senior relay championsh­ips. The glittering drill display presented by junior Sangamitti­ans attired in colourful costumes thrilled the spectators and it was the cynosure of all eyes.

Athula Jayawardha­na, the Director of Sports and Physical Education of Central Province graced the occasion as the chief guest while sports star of yesteryear Padma Weerakody, an old girl of the school was the guest of honour.
