Focusing attention on the importance of water and the need to guide students in the right direction, a thought- provoking and stimulating Inter-School Quiz Competition; 'Soba Pana Sara', was held for the second consecutive time at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, to commemorate World Water Day.

This was organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Economic Promotion, Power and Energy, Environmental Affairs, Water Supply and Drainage and Tourism of Western Province ( WP), in collaboration with Sri Lanka Water Partnership (SLWP) and the University of Colombo (UoC).

The programme was coordinated by UoC's Professor Deepthi Wickramasinghe and WP Councillor Ms Sujeewa Fenando.

This year’s Quiz was to test the knowledge of the participants, and their awareness about water-related issues around the world.

This year, there was an overwhelming response, as 90 schools from the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara Districts came together. Round 1 of the competition was conducted for the registered schools, of which only 40 schools were selected for the semi-final round.

The students had a written test in the first two Rounds, where each team had to collectively discuss and answer the questions. The grand finale was held between the two highest scoring schools, and this round was judged by a panel headed by Prof Deepthi Wickramasinghe.

After a tough competition, Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kiribathgoda came first, Henegama Central College were runners- up, while Gothami Vidyalaya, Gampaha, were second runners-up. The top three teams were awarded trophies and certificates.
