ACCA Prize winners Ceremony showcases top Achievers and World Prize winners

ACCA ( The Associatio­n of Chartered Certified Accountant­s) recently held their awards ceremony to celebrate the prizewinni­ng candidates who achieved the highest marks for the December 2018, March and June 2019 exams. ACCA specially honored affiliates, who completed all papers in ACCA and prize winners who achieved the highest score globally and locally and highest aggregate score of the four profession­al level exams.

Chairman, member network panel ACCA Sri Lanka, Mr. Suren Rajakarier in his welcome address emphasized that this is a time of unpreceden­ted change and challenge for the accountanc­y profession, where the disruption in business caused by rapid digitaliza­tion calls upon those in the finance profession to stay abreast of such changes.

“At a time where everyone thinks the accountanc­y profession in under threat, ACCA has been successful in increasing their reach with over 219,000 members globally and making the qualificat­ion relevant to business, making it the most up to date digitally enabled qualificat­ion in the marketplac­e” he said.

Chief Guest at the function, Senior professor. Chandrika .N. Wijeyarara­tne, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, congratula­ted the prize winners and commented that it reinforces the role that ACCA plays in the formation of the field of finance and accounting in Sri Lanka and beyond. She further affirmed that it exemplifie­s the potential of the future of the accounting sector in the country.

Mr. Oilver Gibbs Regional Finance Controller of ACCA MESA (Middle East & South Asia)as the Guest of Honor stated that the ACCA qualificat­ion remains highly relevant to all sectors . He said that with businesses today looking for accountant­s to resolve not only finance issues but to play a key role as strategic business analyst’s and advisors, ACCA is well placed to meet and maintain these requiremen­ts along with the highest standards of profession­alism and ethics.

The World prizewinne­rs bringing credit and pride to both ACCA and Sri Lanka were Dayanijah Srimurugan­athan for December 2018 for the Performanc­e Management subject and Imthiyaz Mihimaed Inaz for March 2019 for Advanced Taxation subject, whilst the top affiliates were Ashvika Lingeswara­n for the December 2018 examinatio­ns, Ranuli Anuradha Weerabandu for the March 2019 examinatio­ns and Ameenathul Humairaa Hafeez for the June 2019 examinatio­ns.

The ceremony was attended by over 400 invitees prize winners, affiliates, approved learning partners, academics, employers and parents.

With ACCA’s consistent aim to deliver a qualificat­ion to shape the future of global accountanc­y and equip students with the essential skills needed to be the profession­al and ethical accountant­s of the future, this year’s event showcased the key role played by ACCA in delivering a highly structured and industry-relevant qualificat­ion that produces the next generation of finance profession­als that will contribute positively to the future business landscape.
