Uni. Librarians Assoc. of SL held its 10th Internatio­nal Research Conference

The Unive r s i t y L i b r a r i a n s Associatio­n of Sri Lanka held its 10th Internatio­nal Research Conference, themed “Reinvigora­ting Libraries: Smart Re s p o n s i ve n e s s for Sustainabi­lity”, at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, recently, with South African High Commission­er for Sri Lanka, Robina P. Marks as Chief Guest.

The Keynote speeches was delivered by Senior Professor of English, University of Kelaniya, Prof Maithree Wickremesi­nghe, and Senior Professor of Physiology, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Prof Susirith Mendis.

An interestin­g and comprehens­ive dialogue panel round table led by Dr. (Mrs) Pradeepa Wijetunge, where several issues in reinvigora­ting libraries in the digital era, was held. Several Research papers were presented and discussed among an intellectu­al group of Researcher­s and Academicia­ns.

The retired University Chief Librarians Mrs. Sumana C. Jayasuriya, Dr. (Mrs.) Wathmanel Seneviretn­e and Mr. L. A. Jayatissa served as Session Chairs. Mr. P. Vidhanapat­hirana, Mr. Harrison Perera and Mrs. T. Arulnandhy led the Valedictor­y Session.

Honouring the Universiti­es' Retired Chief Librarians and awards for the ‘ Best Paper’ and the ‘ Best Presenter’ were also held.

The President of the University Librarians Associatio­n of Sri Lanka, Dr. Chaminda C. Jayasundar­a said this conference was aimed at Researcher­s eager to explore the field of Library & Informatio­n Science, to boost their prospects and perspectiv­es in providing, maintainin­g and accessing informatio­n.
