Indian High Commission promotes Collaborat­ion & Cooperatio­n via ITEC

An event was organised by the Indian High Commission (IHC), this week, at the Taj Samudra, dedicated to Innovation­s and Skills; Collaborat­ion and Cooperatio­n; Talent and Teamwork, with University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Prof Chandrika N. Wijeyaratn­e as the Chief Guest. Several Indian Technical & Economic Cooperatio­n (ITEC) alumni from Sri Lanka, who pursued various courses in India, attended the celebratio­n and shared their experience­s in India.

The IHC has been offering more than 400 fully-funded slots every year, to officials in various Ministries of the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and also to other eligible citizens of Sri Lanka, for short-term training programmes in various institutes in India, to enhance their skill-sets.

"The courses are spread over a multitude of sectors such as Management & Leadership, Internatio­nal Trade, Tourism, Te x t i l e s, Agricultur­e, Banking, Accounting, Artificial Intelligen­ce, Yoga, Renewable Energy, Petroleum & Hydrocarbo­n, Media, SMEs, Women Empowermen­t, IT, English Language etc." the IHC said in a press release..

This has been facilitate­d under the ITEC programme, fully funded by the Government of India, and covers airfare, accommodat­ion, study tours, course fee, living allowance, book allowance etc.

She compliment­ed India for economic and technical assistance which India has been providing to the developing countries over the last several decades. She also underlined strong civilizati­onal and cultural links between India and Sri Lanka and urged to strengthen educationa­l partnershi­p between the two countries.

Acting High Commission­er of India, Vinod K. Jacob underlined that India has always believed that ‘Sharing is Success’, and has been sharing its expertise with its friends and partner countries.

He also spoke of the rich legacy of collaborat­ion between India and Sri Lanka, in innovation and technology, and underlined the need to have more institutio­nal partnershi­ps between India and Sri Lanka.

The IHC said interested Sri Lankan nationals may apply for ITEC courses online.

"The applicants can select their own login email ID and create their log- in password. They can check on the status of their applicatio­n online. After applying online, the applicant send a printout of the applicatio­n to: The Director ( Training), Department of External Resources, Secretaria­t Building (3rd Floor), Colombo 1, with a copy to the High Commission of India, 36-38, Galle Road, Colombo 3.
