Portrait and bust of two legal luminaries unveiled

-

The portrait of former Minister of Finance and Constitutional Affairs and eminent commercial law luminary K.N. Choksy, PC, and the bust of a former Attorney General Shibly Aziz, PC, were unveiled at the Law Library at Hulftsdorp this week by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.

The Chief Justice addressing the gathering said the two personalities had made an invaluable contribution to the administration of justice in the country.

He referred to the professional journey of Mr Choksy, PC, at the age of 25 in 1958 and that his father N.K Choksy being a King’s Counsel adorned the Bench as a judge of the Supreme Court. That had been a strong foundation for the son to build his own career.

"The Colombo Law library has the honour and pride to see portraits of the father and son placed next to each other, a sight that should inspire the present and future generations of the legal fraternity," he said

Referring to Mr Shibly Aziz, PC, the Chief Justice said he too was admitted to the Bar as an advocate in 1968 at the age of 25.

“Mr Aziz joined the official bar in 1969 and reached the pinnacle by becoming the Attorney General in 1995. Fifteen years later he was voted as the President of the Bar Association to head the unofficial Bar in 2012.”

Bar Association of Sri Lankan (BASL) President Kalinga Indatissa, PC addressed the gathering. Shanaya Choksy and Fathima Aziz spoke on behalf of the two families.

President Court of Ap p e a l Ya s a n t h a Ko d a goda, PC and Attorney General Dappula de Livera, PC were among those present.
