-

Local and overseas experts discussed maritime security cooperation once again at the 10th edition of an annual gathering in Colombo.

Th e G a l l e D i a l o g u e Inter national Maritime Conference 2019, organised by the Sri Lanka Navy under the Ministry of Defence, was held at Galle Face Hotel in Colombo on Tuesday.

This year’s conference held under the theme ‘ Refining Mindset to Address Transnational Maritime Threats; A Review of the Decade’, was attended by representatives of 55 countries, heads of 12 international agencies and three defence industries.

Sri Lanka Navy’s flagship event, "Galle Dialogue" aims at fostering regional maritime cooperation and outlining a global strategy to face common challenges in the maritime domain.

The conference which reached the 10th anniversary drew the highest number of stakeholders. This was held six months after the brutal terrorist attack on Catholic churches by Islamic extremists on Easter Sunday.

The navy said attendance reflects the international community's positive attitude towards the country's security situation. Also, it highlighted the safety of the country for tourists.

Security experts and analysts presented academic papers and discussed a range of subjects of security and maritime corporation. Rear Admiral Niraja Attygalle, the deputy chief of staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and director general of operations, proposed the vote of thanks.
