Advantis Engineering involved in modular construction at Jaffna International Airport

-

Advantis Engineering, an industry leader in rapid, innovative, bespoke space solutions which are a step ahead of its time, utilised its technical expertise in large scale modular construction to facilitate the design, fabrication and assembly of critical infrastructure facilities at the Jaffna International Airport (JIA) in Palaly, including the airport terminal, air traffic control observation tower and the fire and emergency response complex.

Consisting of converted containers (Convertainers) and pre-fabricated steel buildings, the airport is not merely a collection of infrastructure, but a feat of architectural ingenuity, the company said in a media release.

Advantis Engineering brought together pre and post production crews of qualified engineers, designers and quality assurance personnel with a plethora of expertise in engineering, construction and logistics, to complete the project in an impressively short period of two months, whilst adhering to stringent quality and safety standards set by the Advantis Group. Years of experience and unprecedented capabilities in modular and pre-engineered construction were brought together to ensure speedy progress and fruition of the entire project. Through traditional construction methods of brick and mortar, such expeditious completion of the venture would not have been a possibility.

“This is not the first time in which Advantis Engineering has played a key role in some of Sri Lanka’s most important infrastructure development projects through modern day modular construction technologies. Not only do we enable drastic reduction of lead time, but ensure that by utilising the controlled environment of our state-of-the-art production facility, quality is assured as well. Our expertise in predicting lead times so as to not affect the critical path of projects has become unrivaled within the industry, whilst being a sustainable construction solution that minimises environmental impact,” Kamal Wimalaratne – General Manager of Advantis Engineering was quoted as saying..

The upgraded airport is expected to accommodate aircraft within an area of 1.8 square km and flights are due to operate between Sri Lanka and India’s Bengaluru (Bangalore), Kochi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai airports. Advantis Engineering’s role in this project would open doors for sooner than expected exponential growth in the Sri Lankan aviation industry.

“Completing the developments at the Jaffna International Airport is another monumental achievement for us and it would not have been possible without the collaboration of our project management, engineering and project logistics teams. It brings us great pride to know that we were a part of the development taking place in the north, which will in turn bring about a boom in Sri Lanka’s economy,” said Mr. Wimalaratne.

Advantis Engineering is a fully owned subsidiary of Hayleys Advantis Ltd and with a fully-fledged sheltered Convertainer manufacturing plant, which is the largest in Southeast Asia, the company is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and unparalleled engineering expertise.
