With over 3,000 graduates that are currently empowering over 250 multinatio­nal and local bl u e - chip companies, the Informatic­s Institute of Technology ( IIT) is renowned for producing innovators, entreprene­urs and business leaders.

IIT once again bagged multiple accolades for innovation at the renowned ICT competitio­n, the National Best Quality Software Awards ( NBQSA) which was held recently at Hotel Galadari, Colombo. At the recent NBQSA awards, IIT students won two Gold awards, a Bronze award and two Merit awards for displaying innovative projects that will help shape society.

Under the Tertiary Student Project – Technology category, IIT student Thiloshon Nagarajah won Gold for his project “AutoMLR”, supervised by senior IIT lecturer, Guhanathan Poravi. IIT student Ku r u p p u M u d i ya n s e l a g e Gayakshika Gimhani won a Merit award under Tertiary Student Project – Technology category the for her project “Intelligen­t Approach on Diagnosing Dementia at Early Stages Based on Machine Learning” , supervised by Achala Aponso.

Under the Tertiary Student Project – Business category, IIT student Lakshika Sivalogana­than won Gold for her project “Rainout Companion - A Smart Cloth Rack with Dryer”, supervised by Abarnah Kirupanand­a. IIT students Karththika­n Nagularaja­h, Suresh Michael Peiris and Marshal Michael won Bronze for their project ParkER supervised by Kumudini Sarathchan­dra under the same category. IIT student Mohamed Ismail Mohamed Fawaaz won a Merit awards for his project “AVNA – A Hyper Personalis­ed Radio Platform for Geo- Targeted and Personalis­ed Marketing Communicat­ion” supervised by Prassanna Padmanadan under the Tertiary Student Project – Business category.

Every year IIT has been bagging consecutiv­e awards at the NBQSA competitio­n. Last year, IIT students bagged two Merit Awards and a Special Mentions Award under the

Tertiary category for their innovative projects. At last year’s NBQSA, IIT student Raveen Athapathth­u was awarded a Merit Award under the Tertiary Computing category for his project which is a knowledge Based System for Medicine Stock Prediction, while IIT students Numee Tilakarath­ne and Janak Amarasena won a Merit Award under the Tertiary Business category for their project “Shilpa” which is an online platform which empowers the rural artist and handicraft industry in Sri Lanka.

During the three decades of educationa­l excellence, IIT has provided a firm foundation by grooming students to prepare for the competitiv­e industry and providing them the right skills to excel in their careers. IIT has created a culture of educationa­l excellence which fosters creativity and innovation which enables students to explore opportunit­ies and discover the unknown. The grooming and encouragem­ent provided by IIT for students to compete in local and internatio­nal competitio­ns has enabled IIT students to be ahead of other graduates in the industry and face any corporate challenges.

IIT conducts internal postgradua­te and undergradu­ate degrees from the University of Westminste­r ( UOW), UK and Robert Gordon University. The University of Westminste­r degrees offered at IIT are Software Engineerin­g, Business Informatio­n System, Business Management and Computer Science with specialisa­tion pathways in gaming and computer graphics developmen­t, mobile and web computing and multimedia computing.

IIT is an award winning campus, which has bagged many accolades for innovation in local and internatio­nal competitio­ns such as Microsoft Imagine Cup, National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA), APICTA, British CouncilHSB­C Youth Enterprise Award and e-Swabhimani.
