Channelling super powers for a green cause

Caring about our environment is becoming an increaingly important topic day by day. While there are people making an immense difference out there every day, there are many more who make their own contribution every day. Beach cleanups have proved a very common and effective way to make sure one does their part in caring for the environment, and last week the local geek community got together to become everyday superheroes and look after our island. The Geek Club of Sri Lanka joined forces with Cosplay Cleanup Global for this event. Cosplay Cleanup Global, a venture founded by Sharan Velauthan and Lauren Sandeman, is an effort to keep our environment, specially oceans, clean. In order to spread awareness, the beach cleanups they organize have the unique feature of being cosplay themed. So far, they have had successful beach cleanups in several countries including Australia and Indonesia, and now Sri Lanka. They plan to move this initiative across the globe.

Organising it in Sri Lanka, Cosplay cleanup global reached out and partnered with the Geek Club of Sri Lanka and Mindful Travels. te gathering so more than 60 individuals meet up in Wellawatte, and became everyday superheroes by pulling 256kg of trash off the beach!

It’s not hard to do your part in taking care of the environment. All it takes is a little effort, everyday, to be your own superhero is what this gathering proved.
