CIS retains School Team Event title for second year

-

Sri Lanka’s most popular junior golf tournament, the NDB Private Wealth Junior Masters Golf Championship, concluded its 2019 edition with a fantastic display of junior golfing skill and talent. Successfully concluding its fifth year, the tournament hosted by expert financial planner NDB Wealth Management, in partnership with Sri Lanka Golf, witnessed thrilling competition and fine golfing acumen despite the weather conditions restricting the field to Stroke play over nine holes. The talented field encompassed teams from 22 schools and 122 junior golfers from all around Sri Lanka.

Held at the historic Royal Colombo Golf Club (RGCG), this year's competition saw a team from Colombo International School (CIS) emerge victorious for the second consecutive year in the tournament’s team event. Reshan Algama and Kvahn Tejwani, successfully paired to beat all competitions and were closely followed by S. Sanjeevan and S. Dhuwarshan from St. Xavier’s College, Nuwara Eliya as first runners-up while teams from The British School in Colombo and Ladies College ranked as second and third runners-up respectively.

“Much interest was seen in the one and only schools golf tournament organised by Sri Lanka Golf. We will look to build on the format and widen the schools’ golf programme to regional competitions as well. It was heartening to see the St. Xavier’s College from Nuwara Eliya coming second beating the Colombo schools.

Congratulations to the young team from Colombo International School,” stated Niloo Jayatilake, the Chairperson Junior Sub Committee of Sri Lanka Golf.

Prabodha Samarasekera, the CEO of NDB Wealth Management commented; “It is indeed very encouraging to see the wonderful participation this year. This year’s event has been a tremendous success and all winners and participants are gifted with NDB Wealth accounts of significant value, which will serve as a future investment. We are proud to be the sponsor of the event with the goal of bolstering national interest in junior golf. We believe that Sri Lanka has a great chance to bring forth a young golfer at the World Golf Rankings event.”
