Entries for Badminton Nationals close on January 6

The 6 7 t h N at i o n a l Badminton Championsh­ips 2019 combined with the Junior Nationals 2020 will take place at the Sugathadas­a Indoor Stadium in Colombo from January 13 to 18. The annual mega badminton tournament­s, organised by Sri Lanka Badminton ( SLB) typically attract hundreds of top shuttlers from all over the island.

Defending singles champions Dinuka Karunaratn­a and Thilini Hendahewa will be the cynosure of all eyes, vying for the two most sought after titles despite strong competitio­n from several talented shuttlers during the event.

In the previous edition of the event, Thilini and Kavidi Sirimannag­e also won the Women’s Doubles title while Kavidi and Buwaneka Gunatillek­a won the Mixed

Doubles event as well. Sachin Dias and Buwaneka captured the top honours in the Men’s Doubles. A total of rupees one million will be on offer as prize money during the nationals.

The shuttlers will compete in 24 categories during the Senior Nationals. SLB announced that entries for the competitio­ns will close on January 6 at 4.00pm.

"Entry forms are available at SLB headquarte­rs and the SLB website, www.srilankaba­dminton. lk. Entry forms can be handed over to the SLB headquarte­rs at Maitland Place, Colombo 7, or at No. 2 Cambridge Terrace, Colombo 7 from 9.00am," an official communiqué issued by SLB stated.

The draw will be held on January 10 at 10.00am at the SLB Headquarte­rs and will be published on the SLB Notice Board and its official website.
