More staff appointments for the Govt. sector

Unemployed graduates and diploma holders to receive jobs via the weda karamu-rata hadamu progamme

-

Ministries and state institutions experiencing a severe shortage of staff, especially schools located in rural and estate areas, will see more staff appointments in future.

This is because of the Government’s new weda karamurata hadamu initiative, a programme offering placements for unemployed graduates and diploma holders.

The Presidential Secretariat said other institutions to receive qualified graduates/ diploma holders include regional departments of irrigation, agrarian service centers, regional departments of wild life, indigenous medicine hospitals, rural hospitals and dispensaries, the department of surveys, agricultural farms and extension centres, the department of minor export crops, the department of valuation and the department of immigration and emigration.

Those with a basic degree or diploma from a university/higher education institute recognised by the University Grants Commission under 35 years of age are eligible to apply for positions.

According to Presidential Secretariat they will receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 20,000 if selected. It will be compulsory for all candidates to work for five years in the district they are posted to on their first appointment, before any transfers take place.

Applications can be downloaded via www.presidentsoffice.gov.lk and sent to the Presidential Secretariat through Speed Post Courier Service on or before February 20.

When forwarding applications, applicants need to be permanent residents of the divisional secretariat of the area. They should include the area on the envelope itself, eg. Graduate/Kandy district.

The President’s office said this programme is an initiative to make unemployed graduates and diploma holders rational partners in the sustainable development process and create a better work culture for the country.
