Shift to public sector from private sector

- Colombo

This week there is a big exodus of trained ‘ employed’ graduates from the private sector ( mainly SMEs) to accept government jobs.

These graduates have worked in the private sector sometimes for several years, undergone various training and are making useful contributions to the economy. They are now simply abandoning their jobs merely in order to reap the benefits that accrue with Government positions like pensions for instance.

The Government could have easily identified these ‘ employed’ graduates by referring their ID numbers to the Central Bank EPF or the ETF Departments.

Elimination of this group would stop the disruption in the SME sector and also permit more ‘ unemployed’ graduates to be employed.
