Peradeniya University staff honoured for long years of service

The University of Peradeniya recently presented 156 awards to staff who had served 25-40 years at the University.

The awards were presented by Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Prof Upul B Dissanayak­e.

The Vice Chancellor said the university valued the contributi­on of eminent men and women who had contribute­d to the enhancemen­t of the university for many years. He pointed out that there should be a bond between all staff members within the university, in order to maintain its good name.

Some of those who were presented awards were retired, while others were still in service. A M Abeykoon was the only staff member who had served the university for 40 years. The University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof S H P Parakrama Karunaratn­e,

Acting Registrar Saman Rajapakse and Acting Chief Librarian R Maheswaran were present at the event.

The University Joint Trade Unions Chairman G K Ruwan Gajanayake also addressed the participan­ts and the invitees at the event.
