Saegis Campus retains Internatio­nal Mora Cricket Sixes title for 3rd consecutiv­e year

Defending champions Saegis Campus retained their title for the third consecutiv­e year in the Internatio­nal Inter- University Cricket Tournament organised by the University of Moratuwa.

Mora ‘A’ led the Group ‘A’ table while Eastern ‘A’ headed Group ‘ B’. The Group ‘ C’ was conquered by Wayamba and Colombo ‘A’ emerged Group ‘ D’ leaders. The quarter- final matches were played enthusiast­ically between PES and NSBM, Mora ‘A’ and Eastern ‘A’, Mora ‘ B’ and Wayamba and Colombo ‘A’ and Saegis. All games displayed sportsmans­hip and healthy rivalry throughout the preliminar­y rounds. Later on Mora ‘A’ were slotted to play against PES University of India and eventual winners Saegis locked horns with Wayamba in the semifinals.

The final match was between Saegis Campus and PES University of India, and it was a nail biting thriller that drew the attention of all those who gathered to witness grand finale.

In the grand finale, having won the toss, Saegis Campus elected to field, and PES India was able to score only 55 runs in their number of overs. Saegis Campus reached the target of 58 without losing any wickets in three overs.

Wagisha Wanniarach­chi of Wayamba was awarded Best Batsman and Naeen Bala of PES Indian University team was adjudged the Best Bowler of the Series. Vihan Senura of Saegis

Campus was awarded as the Player of the Tournament.

Saegis Campus team comprised of T. Kavindu Dinesh Bandara ( captain), Chamod Wickramasu­riya, Vihan S e nu r a , S u h a n g a Dinudu Wijewardan­a, Nimnaka Rathnayake, Kavindana Perera, Onray Perera and Rajitha Dunuwila. The Saegis team was coached by Rajitha Duniwila and Sanjana Perera functioned as the Manager.

The Mora Sixes Internatio­nal Inter-University Cricket Tournament was successful­ly held on February 28 and 29 at the University grounds in Moratuwa with the active participat­ion of 18 State and Non- State Universiti­es including Indian University teams. The teams who competed were Moratuwa ‘A’, VPA, SLTC, Sabara, Eastern ‘A’, Open, Wayamba, NSBM, Cinec, Mora ‘ B’, Colombo ‘ B’, Eastern ‘ B’, PES, Colombo ‘A’, TTI, Mora ‘C’, Saegis and South Eastern.
